Get ready to help support one of Ontario’s most threatened ecosystems; tallgrass fields! Home to many native species and a wealth of biodiversity, tallgrass is nevertheless constantly threatened by construction and is all too often forgotten in the push for preserving other ecosystems. As a result, Downsview Park has secured five acres of space to dedicate exclusively to tall grass prairies and they’re looking forward to planting it this spring!

In addition to this planting, Downsview Park is hoping to have other information and activities available to guests when they come to this year’s Prairie Party. That includes the presence of the TBC; we’ll have an information booth near our hives at Downsview Park for people to come, ask questions, and learn how bees are an important element of the tallgrass ecosystem!

More information to be announced as the event date draws closer.

Downsview Park’s Prairie Party is an event organized by the Downsview Park Tallgrass Project, which focuses primarily on the unique ecosystem of tallgrass fields. An increasingly threatened ecosystem, the Tallgrass Project aims to preserve this ecosystem, promote biodiversity, and educate people about native species that you can find in this declining space.
