Earth Day at Downsview Park @ Downsview Park
Apr 23 @ 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

From Downsview Park’s Page:

Celebrate Earth Day at Downsview Park!

Register for a tree planting and join us for many outdoor activities, including a birds of prey demonstration, campfire, park tour and more. Our tree planting is in support of the Highway of Heroes Living Tribute.

The TBC will be there showing off the height of beekeeping fashion and discussing beekeeping in general! Weather permitting, we may have a demonstration hive (it needs to be warm enough for our hives to be opened, among other things), but no guarantees. Either way, we’ll have answers to all your beekeeping questions!

For more information about Earth Day at Downsview Park, please feel free to visit Downsview Park’s event page here.

Though this is a free event, please RSVP using the ticket link if you are planning on planting any trees. It will let our partners at Downsview Park keep track of expected numbers and allow them to prepare the best experience for everyone! If you’re primarily interested in experiencing the other activities the Park has planned, you do not need to RSVP.

Downsview Park’s Prairie Party @ Downsview Park
Jun 4 all day

Get ready to help support one of Ontario’s most threatened ecosystems; tallgrass fields! Home to many native species and a wealth of biodiversity, tallgrass is nevertheless constantly threatened by construction and is all too often forgotten in the push for preserving other ecosystems. As a result, Downsview Park has secured five acres of space to dedicate exclusively to tall grass prairies and they’re looking forward to planting it this spring!

In addition to this planting, Downsview Park is hoping to have other information and activities available to guests when they come to this year’s Prairie Party. That includes the presence of the TBC; we’ll have an information booth near our hives at Downsview Park for people to come, ask questions, and learn how bees are an important element of the tallgrass ecosystem!

More information to be announced as the event date draws closer.

Downsview Park’s Prairie Party is an event organized by the Downsview Park Tallgrass Project, which focuses primarily on the unique ecosystem of tallgrass fields. An increasingly threatened ecosystem, the Tallgrass Project aims to preserve this ecosystem, promote biodiversity, and educate people about native species that you can find in this declining space. For more information on the Tallgrass Project, please feel free to visit Downsview Park’s Tallgrass Project page.
